Rules
notdumb.today is a place for people to publish what they think. We try to host arguments, personal opinions and unpopular views fairly. These rules explain what that means in practice. By using the site you agree to follow them, together with the terms, privacy notice and disclaimer.
1. Disagree with ideas, not with people
- You can argue hard against an idea, a policy, a belief or a public claim. You cannot go after the person who wrote it.
- Comments, replies and mentions of other users must stay respectful. No insults, harassment, pile-ons, threats or mocking of individual users.
- Do not publish other people’s private information (such as home addresses, phone numbers, or real names the person has not shared), and do not pretend to be someone else.
2. Hateful and extremely sensitive content
- Articles that are racist, bigoted, or extremely sensitive, and articles that could reasonably be viewed that way, will be taken down.
- Harsh and uncomfortable opinions are allowed when they are argued with reasons. Content whose main point is to demean a group of people is not.
- The site automatically blocks certain slurs in articles, comments, titles and profile text. Do not try to get around the filter.
- See something that breaks this rule? Use the Report button on the article or comment.
3. Original work and plagiarism
- Only publish writing that you wrote, or that you have the right to publish.
- If you quote someone, keep it short and say where it came from.
- Any article that is found to be, or is thought to be, plagiarized may be taken down.
- If you believe your own work was copied here, email our support address with a link to the article and a link to your original.
4. Never allowed
- Anything illegal, including sexual content involving minors.
- Threats, or calls for or praise of violence against people.
- Scams, spam, malware and links meant to trick people.
- Posting the same thing over and over, or creating accounts to dodge a ban.
5. Comments
Comments are short (500 characters). Keep them on the subject of the article, and keep replies civil. Writers of an article can delete comments on it, and admins can delete any comment.
6. Anonymous articles
Anonymous articles follow every rule on this page. Anonymous means other readers cannot see who you are. The site’s admins can still see which account published it.
7. Moderation
- We reserve the right to remove or unlist any article or comment at any time, and to ban any account, with or without notice. An unlisted article is hidden from lists and search but can still be opened with its link.
- When we remove or unlist your article, you will see a notification, and it may include a reason. We are not required to give one.
- Questions about a decision are welcome at our support address. We will look at them, but final decisions are ours.
8. Your writing and how the site may use it
- You keep the copyright in what you publish.
- By publishing on notdumb.today you give the site a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use what you upload in any way we see fit. This includes publishing it on other websites and media, and using it to advertise and promote notdumb.today, and for other purposes.
- If you published an article anonymously, we will not put your name on it when we use it elsewhere.
- If you delete an article from the site, we stop showing it here. Copies we have already used elsewhere may stay up.
- If you want different terms for something you upload, agree them with us in writing by email at our support address before you publish it. Without such an agreement, this license applies.
- You promise that you wrote what you upload, or have the right to publish it and to give this license.
9. Changes
These rules may change. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
